apple cider v. apple juice

Image courtesy of FunnyJunk.com. Apple cider is a cloudy, red-brown, unfiltered, sometimes unpasteurized beverage obtained by pressing apples. Cider may be served hot or cold, and hot cider is sometimes spiced. Cider may be tangier than apple juice.

In most of the world, cider (or apple cider) refers to an alcoholic beverage made from fermented cider. In the United States and Canada, this drink is known as hard cider.

Apple juice is a clear, yellow liquid made by filtering apple cider to remove pulp and sediment. Apple juice is normally served cold. Commercially manufactured apple juice is pasteurized, and has a longer shelf life than apple cider.
