The British Isles are an archipelago off the northwest coast of continental Europe. The two large islands in this cluster are Ireland, to the west, and Great Britain, to the east. The island of Ireland is divided into Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Great Britain consists of the countries of Scotland, England, and Wales.
The United Kingdom (officially, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) is a constitutional monarchy comprising the countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
England is sometimes confused with the UK or Great Britain because:
