jive v. jibe

Jive can refer to swing music or a style of swing dancing, African American vernacular English, or deceptive, meaningless talk.

Jibe means ‘to agree or correspond’. Jibing is a sailing maneuver in which the stern of the boat is turned through the wind by shifting a sail from one side to the other.
