In typography, legibility refers to how easily the letters in a typeface can be distinguished from one another, and is affected by details including:
- the height of lowercase letters
- the size of negative spaces within letters
- character proportions
- stroke thickness variations
- embellishments such as serifs
Readability
Readability deals with how much effort is required to read a block of text. It is a function of:
- spacing between letters, words, and lines
- font size
- line length and alignment
- text and background colors
