meteor v. meteorite v. meteoroid

Fireball Meteor There’s often some confusion about what to call sub-asteroid sized objects that intersect with Earth’s orbit. It’s pretty straightforward: They’re called meteoroids when they’re in space, meteors when they’re streaking through the atmosphere, and meteorites if they manage to land without completely vaporizing.
