primate v. simian
Thursday, September 2, 2010 Primates are an order of mammals with large brains, acute vision, prehensile hands and feet, and complex social structures. Primates include prosimians (these are the ‘lower primates’—lemurs, tarsiers, lorises), and simians.
Simians are the ‘higher primates’—monkeys and apes, including humans. Prosimians are more primitive than simians. Prosimians have long, moist snouts, and rely more on smell than sight. Simians are typically larger, stronger, and smarter. In addition, they take longer to develop, have improved stereoscopic color vision, and tend toward bipedalism.
