spurious v. specious

Spurious means ‘not genuine, counterfeit, or fake’. Specious is synonymous with misleading. It means ‘seemingly true or correct, but actually false or wrong’. Moissanite used as a diamond substitute is spurious. Claims of successful cold fusion are specious.
