wallpaper v. screensaver

Wallpaper is the background image on the desktop of a computer’s graphical user interface.

After a computer has been idle for a predetermined period, a screensaver will turn on, either blanking the screen or displaying an animation. Screensavers were originally intended to prevent burn-in on CRT or plasma displays, but are now used mostly for entertainment or security (if a password is required to disable the screensaver).
